THE LOCAL AREA

One of the most famous walks in the UK, Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk finishes in Robin Hood’s Bay and the village also lies on the Cleveland Way footpath as well as many local circular walks, the village lends itself as the perfect village bolthole for a walking holiday exploring some of the best walks in the country.

Robin Hood’s Bay is just 5 miles from Whitby and is a much-loved gravity-defying picture-postcard village. Once home to the smuggling trade on the Yorkshire coast, said to involve fisherman, clergy and gentry alike, today the village has adopted a much more sedate pace of life.

There are also several pubs in the village with great pub grub. If you want to dine in, take advantage of the well-stocked local stores there, including a fishmongers selling  locally caught fish. There are independent shops and cafes dotted around the village and not forgetting the dinosaur museum!

As hard as it will be to steal yourself away from Robin Hood’s Bay, you really ought to explore the rest of the coast. The Yorkshire coastline is a mix of rugged cliff tops, with RSPB Bempton Cliffs just 30 miles along the coast, visit in May/June to see the Puffins. With so many peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages, long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside attractions of yesteryear, this is proper bucket ‘n spade territory.

REVIEWS

We love to hear back from our guests to find out their experience with Beautiful Escapes.

August 2024

We had a wonderful holiday and Cliffroyd was the perfect base, the cottage was in an idyllic spot, a hop, skip and jump from the beach and nestled in the heart of the village. It was very comfortable and so well equipped. The voucher to spend at the village shop for essentails such as bread and milk etc., was a really nice touch too. We’re already familiar with the area but enjoyed finding new spots and exploring all the village streets.
Booking with Beautiful Escapes was smooth and they were easy to contact when we had an issue with the key and it was soon sorted.

July 2023

This was our 4th time staying in Robin Hoods Bay which says it all, it is a very special place. Not overly commercialised like a lot of places are now, it still feels authentic.

Beautiful cottage, well presented and in a good location near the beach, the balcony was lovely, we enjoyed the views espcecially watching the sun go down with a nice cold drink in the evenings.

We would use Beautiful Escapes again, very knowledgeable about the cottage and the area.

March 2023

Cliffroyd is a fab cottage, great location and well equipped, eveything we needed for our stay. You can’t beat being in the old Bay at the bottom of the bank, it’s magical, like going back in ime so unspoilt. We went to Whitby and Staithes and also Runswick Bay, highly recommend.

August 2022

We absolutley loved staying at Cliffroyd, it is just steps from the beach and the view from the balcony is breathtaking!

It is really easy to unload/load the car at the bottom of the bank near the cottage and park in one of the car parks, you don’t need a car here unless you want to go out exploring. We went to Whitby and Scarborugh on the bus, the children loved the adventure of it all. We drove out to the Moors and enjoyed the senery and walking such stunning views.

We highly recommed Cliffroyd and would defnitely book again with Beautiful Escapes.

April 2022
Cliffroyd is a delightful home from home. Really appreciated the lovely furnishings and thoughtful facilities – well equipped kitchen, plentiful selection of towels including large bath towels, books/games in the lounge, fresh milk and welcome pack. The property is in a superb location, we really enjoyed being so close to the beach and loved the balcony space. I wanted to mention that the shower has very poor pressure.
This was our second holiday in Robin Hood’s Bay and it was just as good as the first, we really love the area and hope to return again sometime.
Thank you for making our holiday run smoothly. The booking process with yourselves was very straight forward and I would recommend Beautiful Escapes to family and friends. The cottage information pack is very helpful. I also appreciated the welcome text and your help in arranging a later check out.
Best regards
Kirsty
