There is so much to see and do in this wonderful part of North Yorkshire, walking and cycling from the door, historic places of interest locally include Rievaulx Abbey, Ampleforth Abbey, Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall and the ancient City of York with its museums, City Walls and Minster is worthy of a visit and less than 30 minutes away. The market town of Helmsley is just 4 miles and has a choice of inns, restaurants and shops while a scenic drive across the North York Moors takes you to Goathland and Grosmont with its famous steam railway and on to Whitby on the spectacular North Yorkshire coast just an hour away.

Staying at the cottage is a real treat, nestled in this captivating hamlet in the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it is the essence of all that is glorious about North Yorkshire.

Living Space

The open plan double height space is all set on the ground floor, spacious yet cosy, with a wood burner for chilly days and a comfy sofa and easy chair for relaxing with a good book, the full height window offers uninterrupted views across the the Abbey, there’s a smart kitchen area perfectly equipped with everything you need close at hand, electric oven, hob and dishwasher.

Dairy Suite

This is a grand double height room with exposed beams and a super king bed, with antique furniture and pretty soft linens all creating a restful space to retreat to at the end of a busy day spent exploring.

Terrace

In front of The Dairy there is a table and chairs, perfect for morning coffee as you plan the day’s adventures or enjoy a sundowner as the sun sets over the Abbey, could there be a better end to the day!

Exploring

There are many historical attractions nearby including the majestic Castle Howard, the ecclesiastical ruins of Byland Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey and a castle in the attractive market town of Helmsley. Directly form the cottage you can explore an abundance of walks and trails, the Howardian Hills and also the neighbouring North York Moors National Park both offer excellent walking routes for seasoned ramblers and those looking for a more sedate meander alike. It’s also a perfect place for a cycling holiday with miles upon miles of perfect climbs and descents awaiting your discovery with jaw-dropping views to make the climbs worth the burn!

Being just 20 miles north of the City of York you are also perfectly placed to head into the City to experience the culture of the Minster, museums, galleries and the ancient City walls or if your passion is food you’ll find many excellent independent bars and restaurants to discover!

York is a city brimming with history and culture. Take a walk along the castle walls and marvel at the view below, or head to York Minster for some truly jaw dropping architecture and follow that with a wander around the cobbled streets with beautiful architecture to admire and independent boutiques to peruse.

The North York Moors still holds villages relatively untouched by time, Goathland where sheep roam freely and Grosmont with its steam railway, venture a little further to the spectacular coast and discover wild and wonderful seascapes, world beating fish and chips, expansive sandy beaches and Whitby home to Bram Stoker’s Dracula!
