Richmond, is a Georgian market town which sits majestically above The River Swale, embracing it’s 11th century history with narrow streets and alleys spurring off from the vast cobbled Market Square. The town was formed by the Normans in 1071 when they built the castle which still dominates the skyline today and a must see for all visitors to the area.

Every Saturday there is a traditional outdoor market, joined by a popular farmers market once a month. There is a wonderful Georgian theatre hosting a wide variety of shows and a cinema too.
Richmond is famous as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, the ideal base to explore the area, with walks from the castle down to the River Swale through to Easby Abbey and further afield into Swaledale and the Dales beyond. The historic towns of York and Harrogate are also within easy reach. This is an ideal location for keen walkers, cyclists and nature lovers with so much on the doorstep.
