Why Yorkshire?
Yorkshire is extremely well set up for cyclists of every persuasion and even if you don’t have your own bike, there are plenty of cycle hire places across the region that offer a wide range of bikes – road bikes, mountain bikes, ebikes, hybrid bikes and kids’ bikes, along with pubs, cafes and restaurants that are very bike friendly too– perfect for a pitstop along the way.
Road Riding
If you’re a serious pedal-head, you can put your skills and stamina to the test, by riding one of the two stages of the 2014 Tour de France, set in Yorkshire Dales National Park. The route takes in three classified climbs on some of the quieter roads and covers a 125km circle starting and finishing in Grassington.
Mountain Biking
If you’re looking for rough terrain, big hills and loads of off-road routes, look no further than Dalby Forest. Here you’ll find England’s biggest MTB trail centre (that hosted a Cross Country World Cup), with a huge selection of trails where you can either test your skills and stamina or breathe out along more than 50 miles of gentle forest tracks.
Kids and Families
Yorkshire offers plenty of options for getting your little ‘un on a bike ride or on the back of yours! For example, a ride from York to Selby is 75% traffic-free and takes in tarmac, a disused railway line and quiet country roads over 14 miles or so.
e-Bikes
The hills in the Dales don’t look quite so daunting from an e-bike! This is a wonderful way to take in breathtaking views up hill and down Dale, through picturesque towns and villages, at a pace that doesn’t leave you breathless.
Events & Tours
If you’re feeling adventurous, Yorkshire regularly plays host to several events, from competitive riding, fun festivals, off-road enduro’s, social meets or if you’re looking for something more bespoke hire a local guide to plan a route just for you.
