This spring marks the first time in history that Britain’s most popular heritage railway will welcome the hugely anticipated steam locomotive No. 45596 Bahamas that has captivated railway enthusiast for decades.

The historic No.45596 Bahamas steam locomotive was built in Glasgow in 1934 by North British Locomotive Company and was designed by Sir William Strainer for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The steam icon has since been included as a member of the famed Jubilee Class. Named after the Caribbean Islands, the No.45596 Bahamas quickly became an integral part of Britain’s railway network and almost lasted up until the end of the steam era. In the late 1960’s, the steam icon was preserved following a dedicated restoration effort to ensure the continuation of its legacy for generations to come. Nowadays, you’ll find it operating on heritage railways across the country and giving passengers and passers-by of all ages something to marvel at.
